As far as I am aware Joyce Clayton was Scothern's oldest ever living resident who died in 2022 at the age of 103. A remarkable lady who lived unaided till the last few months of her life, mostly on Craypool Lane in Scothern. And what a life that was. Born in Lincoln, from an early age Joyce was a precocious and confident child. Playing in Canwick Road Graveyard and dropping her dolls into freshly dug graves, she gave the Vicar and her parents a somewhat challenging time. This continued with her Commanding Officers when she joined the RAF in the war. In later life Joyce became a force to be reckoned with especially in the Women's Institute were she held all the top posts and was the organiser of the institutions annual meetings at Skegness. For this work Joyce was recognised by the Queen at a Buckingham Palace Garden Party.
